The August Poll results are in and it seems our Candidates like to 'spread themselves around'
Sep 02, 2008

We asked 'How many agencies do you register with when searching for a Job'

44% of respondents said they liked to spread themselves around, and register with as many agencies as possible.
And only 14% thought that there one agency was enough.
We understand that searching for that new position can be tough and that you will often turn to many agencies for help. We take this very seriously, and while we would love to be your exclusive agency, we understand this will not always be the case. But we do aim to be your favorite agency; by building a real relationship with you and finding you a job that is 'just right'.

We raised over $1000 for the Kids Help Line thanks to our clients!
Jul 10, 2008

Spectrum would like to extend a special thank you to all our clients who completed our surveys during the Financial Year 2007-2008.

For every survey you completed during the year, we have sent $10 to the Kids Help Line to help support this vital service to our societies most precious and vulnerable people; our children. Through your efforts we have donated a total of $1040.

Spectrum is proud to support this charity because we understand that our children are our future. And providing a safe and supportive childhood for all Aussie kids is the responsibility of all. We also understand the strong connection between a child's physiological wellbeing and their ability to thrive in school, and how this can affect their possible future careers and happiness. We believe we are truly making an investment in their future and the future of Australian society.

We will continue to support this important charity in 2008-2009 and encourage our Clients to help us by filling in our surveys. It only takes five minutes; you'll be helping us improve our services to you, helping Aussie kids and investing in our future.

Federal Budget 2008. What are the implications on the Superannuation industry
May 16, 2008

The first Rudd government budget made modest changes to superannuation in comparison to the previous couple of years. Proposed implementations include;

  • $16m in funding over three years to establish a clearing house to assist business with the administration of choice of super in regards to contributions by streamlining the process through a single location
  • Project established to produce simpler Product Disclosure Statement documents for financial products
  • Pull back of the availability to obtain benefits through salary sacrifice including the government co-contribution will not be around much longer.  Changes from July 2008 will mean salary sacrifice is added to the income test for assessing financial and retirement benefits
  • Expansion of the allowance to export financial services via withholding tax relief
  • FBT now applicable on meals funded through salary sacrifice

The changes to superannuation outlined in 2006 & 2007 were the biggest in the past decade and mean that a wide range of changes came into place as of the first of July 2007. As a result superannuation companies went through a phenomenal growth period and continue seeking people for newly created roles and demand, especially people with previous experience in Super. The areas in highest demand include Fund Administrators, Business Analysts, Project Officers, Compliance and Customer Service. Most companies are looking for both permanent employees and short term contractors to fulfill immediate needs.

There is still no better time to consider your future within superannuation and to make your valuable skills work for you.

Spectrum and Entity Solutions raise $1008.50 for Kids with Bone Marrow Cancer with a footy building mingle!
Sep 20, 2007

On Friday the 10th September, Entity Solutions and Spectrum combined to host a footy themed "builing mingle" with all the tenants at 410 Collins Street.

After a week of sweltering in an office with no airconditioning, all the tenants at 410 were more than happy to "mingle" with their neighbours after Entity Solutions generously offered to host the event on their roof-top balcony! Though the biggest success of the evening was definitely the raffle, held to raise money for Kids with Bone Marrow Cancer.

David Little from Entity was proud to announce that we had reached our target of $1008.50, which would go towards the chosen charity.

The staff at Spectrum would like to again thank David and Entity Solutions for hosting the function, and Suzi and Spectrum for coordinating everything, especially the great footy food!

POLL RESULTS: What do you want from your Recrutiment Advisor?
Feb 07, 2007

The results of Spectrum's last web poll are in! When asked what you want from a Recruitment Advisor when you are looking for a job, 23% of people identified building a strong professional relationship with their Advisor as most important; 4% identified that they would like their Recruitment Advisor to find out about their dreams and motivations and advise them on their career future and development; and 63% of all respondants identified all of the above aspects as the most important attributes a Recruitment Advisor can have.

At Spectrum, we believe that through people, anything is possible. This means that we are dedicated to constantly improving our service based on the expectations of the people we speak to daily, be they jobseekers, clients, or just people looking for a little guidance in their careers.

When you are looking for a job, so many things have to be taken into consideration, though the main question that it is most important to ask is "will you be happy in this opportunity?" What do you really want from you career? What do you need from a prospective employer to realise your goals and dreams? These are the things that your Recruitment Advisor needs to know about you to place you in the right job with the right company!

Online testing: The way of the future for skills testing, but whose skills are they?
Aug 28, 2006

Many recruitment agencies are now sending testing to candidates for completion online prior to interview. This can prove to be convenient and helpful, especially for candidates who do not have time for a lengthy interview process. However, recent distrust of results has arisen from the possibility for a jobseeker to "cheat" on pre-interview skills testing that is conducted in unsupervised circumstances.

457 Sponsorship Visas - Know Your Rights
Aug 21, 2006

The Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, or DIMA, has reacted to recent reports of 457 visa abuse by proposing restrictions in the use of 457 employees by recruitment agencies. DIMA raised concerns that some recruitment agencies are offering immigration assistance to jobseekers wanting to work in Australia on a "long stay" or sponsorship visa and then charging candidates for the provision of the service. This charge is in breach of the Migration Act, which states that an employer may provide advice and assistance to visa seekers however must not charge for the service (source: Quay Appointments newsletter 11/08/06).
